Ribbon-Cutting Ceremonies for GDA Columbus & Conyers

Georgia Driving Academy Celebrates New Campus Locations

Columbus Campus Ribbon Cutting

August 19, 2020 – Georgia Driving Academy celebrated the opening of its new Columbus Campus located at 3625 Manchester Expy Suite C, Columbus, GA 31909  with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony. During the ribbon-cutting, GDA President, Brad Barber, Stevens Transport – Vice President of Driver Resources, Angela Horowitz, Georgia State Representative, Richard Smith, and Columbus Mayor Pro Tem, Gary Allen, all spoke of the importance of this CDL training facility for the city of Columbus and the state of Georgia.

Georgia Driving Academy has had a location in Columbus, GA since 2011 but recently relocated to their new location directly behind Sons of Chevrolet earlier this year. GDA has been in business since 1995 and has helped over 16,000 Georgians earn their Commercial Driver’s Licenses. Even throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, Georgia Driving Academy campuses did not have to shut down and have continued to train new students for their Class A or Class B CDL.

“During this current period, we know that the need for drivers is critical and we’ve been lucky at Georgia Driving Academy to be considered an essential business,” said Campus President, Brad Barber.

“In these uncharted times of COVID, we’re extremely appreciative of all the drivers in the industry,” said Angela Horowitz, Vice President of Stevens Transport.

Stevens Transport is proud to be a carrier partner at the Columbus, GA location. This new location is now adjacent to Steven’s Transport CDL test site and GDA’s CDL training range. This is a wonderful partnership for not only Georgia Driving Academy but also GDA students entering into the trucking industry and having an opportunity to begin a career with Stevens Transport.

Conyers Campus Ribbon Cutting

August 20, 2020 – Georgia Driving Academy celebrated the opening of its new Conyers Campus located at 1035 Sigman Rd NE, Conyers, GA 30012 with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony. GDA was lucky enough to have Georgia State Governor, Brian Kemp, in attendance and to speak during this celebration. Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) Commissioner, Spencer Moore, was also in attendance and spoke at the event.

Since its opening in 1995, Georgia Driving Academy’s Conyers Campus has been a staple among the community. With their most recent move to their new location on Sigman Road, this new training facility provides a larger training yard and more classrooms for students. With the help of Education Affiliates who purchased GDA back in August 2016, this new location will continue to train thousands of Georgia residents for years to come.

“We have 8.2 million licensed drivers in Georgia. Only 362,000 of them are commercial motor vehicle drivers,” said Spencer Moore of the Georgia Department of Driver Services during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. GDA hopes to continue to increase that number and help provide Georgia with more CDL drivers in the coming years.

“The need for drivers is going to be even more critical as we come out of this pandemic. We got to get those shelves full, and the only way to do that is through drivers,” Brad Barber said.

“In many ways, the folks that represent this industry today, the industry leaders, and those employees that are on the road today moving products and goods around, are the ones that have kept our economy running… I can proudly say that Georgia is on the road to recovery,” Governor Kemp shared with the attendees.

Georgia Driving Academy thanks all of its speakers and attendees that were a part of both ribbon-cutting ceremonies. This is a monumental moment for GDA with two new locations that are capable of training many more students looking to earn their Commercial Driver’s Licenses.
